Challenging Three Years

Postby Albert R » Fri Jul 14, 2017 7:07 pm

Hey guys its me Albert.
Well, as some of you might have noticed I've been away from the forum for about what seems like just yesterday, but is more like three years.
I got back from Afghanistan pretty much in one piece, only to find my beloved wife gravely ill. Cancer had invaded her body at multiple points, but she fought like the fierce lioness she was. Three treasured years we were able to share when they had given her a three month death sentence. She passed away this December past, three days after Christmas. She managed to see our grandchildren one last time before she slipped away.

I've managed to keep my life together, though there are days where I wish... well, I'm not certain what I wish for, but anything would be preferable to the weariness, heartache, bitter tears, and sorrow.

I just pulled out my box of metalworking gear, brushed the dust off of it, and decided I would like to try my hand again at exercise one. I am ordering a new saw frame - you know, the one from GreenLion Studios? ( I still have my Gorbet saw frame and the Knew Concepts one...) And a few hundred blades to add to the several hundred I have in the box. I'll need a bench to work on, and a pin, so it's off to the lumberyard, or maybe I'll just modify the desk I'm currently working on. I've made do in a lot worse places, with a lot less! I'm going to give it a go again and see if I can accomplish a meaningful and thoughtful example to share with you all. I still have the one I started overseas, but I think I'll hang that one up in front of me as a reminder...

I have a bit of catching up to do, so I'll be up late reading!

Welcome back Albert

I am so sorry to hear about your wife.

We had a close call at my home, but they were able to treat my wife.
I have been following you on youtube and google plus.
Now much there.

Happy you survived your Afghanistan trip.

At any rate, welcome back.

My condolences.
I call work 'My medicine'. It keeps the black dog from the door. Unfortunately, I never want to take my medicine when I need it most.

Welcome back Albert- After your life events the past few years, I'm glad to hear you're getting back to the woodworking, and I'm guessing writing. :sunny:

Welcome back Albert

I'm so very saddened to hear of your loss. I can't imagine how hard it must have been for you these past three years.

I hope you'll find a little solace here and that getting back to work supports your healing process.

Fellows,
Thank you very much for the kind words.
I have found the familiar things, like my tools, bring a certain comfort. I've laid out an area for my bench, I've ordered a couple gross of #2 blades and the Green Lion saw, (should be here Wednesday), I've got a piece of steel to get back into practice with... All things I'm familiar with, comfortable with.
As to writing Doug, I don't know. Not sure I have the fortitude yet, the desire to put words to paper. Not sure I have much to say that's worth listening to. Maybe with time, something will coalesce.

Again, thank you all for the kind words. It is very much appreciated!

Cam,
Very kind of you; thank you.
Already starting to feel the effect of having something to do. The Green Lion Studio saw arrived and I am working on a comparison between the Gorbet, Knew Concepts, and GL Studio saws. I am primarily a writer, but my son is urging me to dive into the video blogging field.
Stay tuned for the review/comparison.

Glen, Steve,

Thanks for the kind words. I'm being diligent in my studies, and where there is will, the way soon makes itself apparent.
